The Department of Science, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in collaboration with the Kerala Sasthra Sahitya Parishath, Thrissur District, organised an engaging session titled “Exploring the World of Nobel Prize Winning Scientists 2025” on October 21, 2025. The programme offered valuable insights into the groundbreaking research recognised by this year’s Nobel Prizes in Physiology or Medicine, Physics, and Chemistry.

Dr. K. G. Radhakrishnan (Govt. Medical College, Thrissur), Dr. Devadas K. M. (Sri Vyasa N.S.S. College, Wadakanchery), and Dr. Asha K. S. (St. Mary’s College, Thrissur) led informative presentations on the laureates’ pioneering work.

The event was graced by Dr. Sr. Meena K. Cheruvathur, Principal of St. Mary’s College, and Dr. K. K. Abdullah, Chairman of Sastrabodhasamithi, Kerala Sasthra Sahitya Parishath. The session celebrated the spirit of scientific excellence and inspired participants to appreciate the contributions of Nobel laureates shaping the world of modern science.

Westfort College of Nursing, Pottore, observed World Mental Health Day 2025 on October 10, emphasizing the theme “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.”
The programme aimed to raise awareness about the importance of mental health care and ensure better accessibility to psychological support during crises.

As part of the observance, a series of activities including a health talk, street play, and skit were conducted at St. Mary’s College, Thrissur, Kakkathoppu community area, and Government Mental Health Centre, Thrissur. The events encouraged community participation and highlighted the role of timely intervention in maintaining emotional well-being.

The Department of Applied Biotechnology, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in collaboration with the Marian Center for IKS – Bodhayanam, organized an Expert Talk and Cultural Insight Session featuring Tholpavakoothu on 9th October 2025 at the Jubilee Hall.
The session, led by K. Viswanatha Pulavar from Tholpavakoothu Sangam, aimed to communicate the significance of biodiversity through the traditional shadow puppetry art form of Kerala. The event offered a unique blend of science and culture, emphasizing the role of indigenous art in promoting environmental awareness.
Students and faculty actively participated, appreciating the creative approach to understanding biodiversity and cultural heritage.

The Administrative Staff of St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, organized a two-day workshop on “Navigating RTI: Rights and Responsibilities” on 18th and 19th September 2025 at St. Joseph’s Hall. The sessions were led by Dr. Abey George, Retired Associate Professor, KILA, and Director of Social Audit, who also formerly headed the TISS Centre, Kerala.

The workshop aimed to enhance awareness about the Right to Information Act and its practical applications in ensuring transparency and accountability. The event was held under the guidance of Dr. Sr. Meena K Cheruvathur (Principal), Sr. Sini C O (Superintendent), and Lt. Anu D Alappat (Public Information Officer).

The title is "Biodiversity Seminar 2025: Fostering a Harmonious Relationship Between Humanity and Nature" and it described a two-day national seminar hosted by St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in October 2025, organized by the Department of Applied Biotechnology with focus areas like plant, animal, and microbial biodiversity, conservation, sustainable development goals, and indigenous knowledge systems.

The Department of Social Work at St. Mary's College (Autonomous), Thrissur, successfully conducted a two-day Creative Theatre Workshop titled "OPEN FRAME."

The enriching workshop took place on September 19 and 20, 2025, beginning at 9:00 AM on both days.

Praveen Narayan, Director of PLAY PATIO, served as the Workshop Guide, leading participants through various creative and theatrical exercises. The event provided a platform for participants to explore new dimensions of expression and performance.

The initiative was a collaborative effort, organized with support from Rotary Club Thrissur and Rotaract, and was held in association with PLAY PATIO Theatre. The workshop concluded successfully, contributing to the college's cultural and academic engagement activities.

The event commenced at 9:00 AM and featured Dr. Smijo Sebastian, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, Rajagiri College of Management and Applied Sciences, Kakkanad, as the Guest of Honour.

Dr. Smijo led an insightful session on “Research Methodology”, where he shared valuable perspectives on the fundamentals of research, data analysis, and ethical approaches to academic inquiry. The interactive session helped students gain a deeper understanding of research processes and their applications in social work practice.

The Department of Botany, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, organized the Association Inauguration on 19th September 2025 at Chavara Hall. The programme was graced by Dr. Sujana K. A., Scientist E, Botanical Survey of India, Coimbatore, who served as the Guest of Honour.

Dr. Sujana delivered an enlightening talk on “The Significance of Sacred Groves in the Ecological and Cultural Landscape of India”, highlighting the importance of preserving India’s traditional ecological heritage and its role in biodiversity conservation.

The event was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Sr. Meena K. Cheruvathur, Principal of the College, and coordinated by Dr. Manju Madhavan, Head of the Department and Faculty Coordinator, along with Ms. Fathima Thammana, Student Coordinator.

The inauguration marked the beginning of another academic year of exploration, research, and environmental awareness for the Botany Department, inspiring students to uphold the spirit of ecological conservation and sustainability.
